MW Storage Builds 200 MWh Battery Storage in Bavaria – Entrix to Optimise and Market the Asset

13 / 03 / 25

MW Storage is building one of the largest battery storage facilities in Europe in Arzberg. MW Storage is relying on the Munich-based company Entrix to optimize and market 50 MW and 100 MWh.

MW Storage, a leading Swiss project developer for energy storage solutions, will commission one of Europe’s largest battery storage systems in Arzberg, Bavaria, in April 2025. With a capacity of 100 MW and 200 MWh, the facility will make a significant contribution to grid stability and the efficient integration of renewable energy.
Entrix, a specialist in multi-market optimisation for battery storage systems, will manage the optimisation of 50 MW and 100 MWh, ensuring efficient participation in energy markets and maximising economic potential.
This battery storage project is the first initiative under the MW Storage Fund, which was launched in 2022 to drive the expansion of battery storage across Europe. MW Storage is realising this project alongside key partners: Reichmuth Infrastructure is the majority shareholder, while Bayernwerk and ZENOB are supporting the initiative as additional investors.

Efficient Optimisation and Market Integration

Entrix uses artificial intelligence and algorithms to optimise and trade the battery efficiently across all relevant energy markets, including ancillary services and trading in the day-ahead and intraday wholesale markets.
Beyond economic optimisation, Entrix places great emphasis on close project collaboration and technical integration. This approach allows for precise control of the assets, minimizing downtime, and optimizing the operational life and durability of the batteries.

“We are proud to collaborate with such an innovative partner as MW Storage to drive the energy transition in the Upper Bavaria region. As a Munich-based company, we are especially pleased to contribute to the region’s sustainable development,” says Steffen Schülzchen, CEO of Entrix.

MW Storage explains:”MW Storage has chosen Entrix as a specialised optimiser. We are convinced that Entrix is the right expert for the German market and look forward to continued partnership.”

Further MW Storage Projects Strengthen the Energy Transition

As a pioneer in battery storage across Europe, MW Storage actively drives the energy transition. With projects in Germany, Switzerland, and Finland, as well as a broad network of partners, MW Storage makes a significant contribution to Europe’s sustainable energy future.

About MW Storage
The MW Storage Fund was founded in 2022 as a result of the successful collaboration between the multi-family office Swiss KMU Partners AG and the experienced project team MW Storage, led by Wilfried Karl & Marco Rüegg. The fund focuses on large-scale battery storage projects in Europe, recognising them as a fundamental component of energy infrastructure for the energy transition.
The project team has already successfully implemented various large-scale battery storage projects across multiple countries in recent years, bringing this expertise to the MW Storage Fund. MW Storage provides professional investors with access to sustainable infrastructure projects and has primarily been financed by multi-family office funds.
All projects are developed in close collaboration with grid operators, energy companies, and local authorities. The team’s extensive experience is a key asset, as a significant number of follow-up projects are already in the pipeline.
